To install a stretch tent alongside a building, we need suitable fixing points on the wall. If none are available, we would usually install small masonry thunderbolts into the structure, fitted with eyelets for attaching the tent or ropes.
Before doing this, we would of course require permission from the property owner, and we would carry out a careful assessment of the building’s structural integrity. Duwayne, who is a professional builder and electrician, would be able to confirm whether this is feasible.
The thunderbolt eye bolts are 8mm and can either be left in place for future use – something many of our clients opt for – or removed and the holes filled afterwards.
The holes themselves are very small; for a 10m tent, we typically require around five or six fixings. After use, the holes can be discreetly filled, corked, or fitted with plastic grommets. Many hotels use similar grommets when scaffolding needs to be secured to buildings, allowing the same fixing points to be reused year after year. Some clients also find it useful to leave the eyebolts in place for future events.
Please see the attached examples of tents fixed to walls. The wall must be constructed from a sufficiently strong material to safely support the tension from the tent.
